head "studies"

These aren't real studies, I'm trying to use reference in a different way. Instead of trying to capture every little detail, the idea is to just get inspired by photos and develop more of a stylized interpretation. Fancy words for something pretty basic. I'm using a black pencil to up my blacks. All pictures are from the sartorialist.

While I'm getting ready to send out my latest round of postcards (biggest batch yet), I've been watching boardwalk empire and it's a fantastic show. So here:

Enoch Nucky Thompson, nice guy and gangster. Trying to experiment with a colored pencils technique in PS.

Head studies. Trying to find that happy medium between realistic and cartoony. I hit that sweet spot on some of these heads, swing and miss on others.
